Introduction

Thank you for using Fish Identifier - Fishly (the "App"), developed by Yang Zhiyong ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our App.

Key Privacy Principles:

  • We do not require personal accounts
  • We do not collect personally identifiable information
  • We do not share your data with third parties for marketing or advertising
  • All user data remains local to your device except where required for core functionality

Information We Collect

To provide fish identification services, the App may collect and process the following types of information:

1. Camera and Photo Access

When you use the identification feature, the App accesses your device's camera or photo library to capture images of fish.

Important Note on Image Processing: To provide fish identification services, your fish photos are sent to Google's Gemini API for analysis. We do not store these images on any server. Google may temporarily process these images according to their privacy policy, but they are not stored by our application.

2. AI Chat Functionality

When you use the chat feature to ask questions about fish:

  • Your questions are sent to a cloud-based AI service
  • Responses are generated based on your queries
  • Chat history is stored only on your device

3. Device Information (Automatically Collected)

  • Device Model: Information about your device hardware and operating system
  • App Usage Data: Anonymous information about feature usage and interaction patterns
  • Diagnostic Information: Crash reports and performance data collected through Firebase Crashlytics SDK

4. Location Data (Optional)

With your explicit permission, the App may access your approximate location to provide geographically relevant fish information. This data is used solely within the App and not transmitted to our servers.

How We Use Information

We use the collected information solely for the following purposes:

  • To provide fish identification services via Google's Gemini API
  • To improve the accuracy of our identification algorithms
  • To enhance your user experience and app performance
  • To diagnose and fix technical issues using Firebase Crashlytics
  • To understand usage patterns for future development

Data Security: All image processing occurs through Google's secure API. We do not store your photos. Device information is anonymized and aggregated for analytical purposes only.

Data Storage and Retention

Your data is handled as follows:

  • Fish Images: Processed temporarily by Google Gemini API but not stored by our application
  • App Data: All user preferences and history are stored locally on your device
  • Crash Reports: Anonymous diagnostic data is stored by Firebase for 90 days

When you delete the app, all locally stored data is removed from your device.
